Frequently Asked Questions

We’re keeping an eye on the COVID-19 situation and will update existing and prospective students as more information becomes available, and we will continue to update these FAQs.

Q. Are In-Person Workshops canceled?

Q. What are my options if I want to minimize my contact with others?

A. You can sign up for our Live Online and Self-Paced online classes. These options, particularly our Live Online option, provide the same instruction as an on-site workshop, from the convenience (and controlled environment) of your home.

Q. What should I do to protect myself and others from spreading the virus?

A. Follow the guidelines laid out by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Practice respiratory hygiene: cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue
  • If you have fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, seek medical care early
  • Stay informed and follow the advice given by your healthcare provider
  • Stay home when you are sick
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces

A. Pearson VUE testing centers, which had been closed since March 16, have begun to reopen. Not all testing centers are open, and availability is limited; we strongly recommend that candidates book testing dates as soon as possible/available in your market.

Prometric testing centers, which had been closed since March 17, remain closed to the public at large, but “essential workforce” exams (including the MFT National Examination) are able to be scheduled. As with Pearson VUE, availability is limited, so we strongly recommend booking as soon as possible.

Both Pearson VUE and Prometric have instituted new safety precautions at testing centers (including social distancing, cleaning protocols, new rules and regulations for permitted materials, etc.). Note that both Pearson and Prometric are now requiring all testing candidates to bring and wear their own face mask throughout the exam; masks will not be provided by the testing center, and anyone without a mask will be denied testing services.

Q. How is my testing date or testing center affected by COVID-19?

A. CA Executive Order N-39-20, issued by the Governor of California on Monday, suspends continuing education requirements for all licensed BBS professionals who have a license renewal date between 3/31/20 and 6/30/20. CE requirements will need to be completed within six months after the emergency period expires.

While you may defer your CE requirements for some time if your renewal date falls in that window, our recommendation is to complete your CE requirements as scheduled, for three reasons: (1) it keeps you on track; (2) you will need to complete them within six months, which means an additional filing process in the future; (3) you may have more time now during this stay-at-home order to complete them.

Q. I’m a licensed professional in California. What does CA Executive Order N-39-20 mean for me?

A. We’ve got you covered. If you have enrolled in an AATBS course with an expiration date in March or April 2020, we are automatically extending your enrollment for sixty days, for free. If your test date has been cancelled or impacted by the closure of your testing site and your enrollment expires outside of these dates, please contact us at 1-800-472-1931.

Q. If my testing date has been affected, what if I need more time to study?

A. Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our students and staff. Given the continued uncertainty around the spread of COVID and necessary measures to prevent it, we have decided to cancel all remaining In-Person Workshops through the end of 2020.

We are pleased to offer the same great content, taught by the same expert instructors, through our Live Online Workshops. The Live Online format offers a number of conveniences over In-Person:

  • Shorter sessions: The same content is broken up into shorter sessions, reducing fatigue and improving retention
  • Greater availability: Sessions are offered more frequently, held multiple times per month
  • No travel (or travel costs): Sessions available anywhere, everywhere, taken from the convenience (and controlled environment) of your home or office
